With a little over three months in I have to admit, I LOVE being a father. I wanted to share 10 of my favorite things about being a father thus far, in no particular order.
-
When Caedmon smiles as soon as he sees me for the first time that day.
As if you didn’t any motivation to get through the work day! - We sing together.
Okay, so maybe he can’t really sing yet,but he does ‘talk’ up a storm and smile as I sing. Just the other day I was running through some songs before we had practice at church. As soon as I started playing he smiled and started singing along. Let’s not forget the silly songs we make up about changing his diaper. - When he falls asleep on me / When we fall asleep together.
For those who don’t have children, look forward to this. For those who do, you understand. - Watching Panthers games together.
I wanted to start this tradition where we watch the game together each Sunday. I hope this will carry throughout our lives, and maybe one day we’ll have season tickets so we can watch the games in person. Oh, we even cry together when they lose.
- Watching him roller over onto his back and seeing his reaction.
This is new to the list as of two days ago. Caedmon has worked hard at this and when he finally made it onto his back you could see the result of our praise in his reaction. There was no doubt in that moment that he knew he was loved deeply.
- Going on walks together.
Those front carriers are amazing inventions. I used it for the first time at the beach this summer. We walked and watched the sunrise one morning. A moment I’ll never forget.
- Praying over him at night.
This is hands down one of the favorite parts of my day.
- Changing his diaper.
Um, yeah. This actually made the list. You must think I’m crazy — but you have to know Caedmon. He loves to have his diaper changed. He’ll just smile and giggle which makes the entire experience wonderful. Add in some silly songs about changing the diaper and it’s quality time!
- Burping.
I obviously can’t feed him so this is my way of helping out. I’ve actually got a gift for it apparently. He burps quickly and pleasantly with me. It’s a joy helping out.
- Learning about myself.
Being a father and having a deep unrequited love for your child teaches you a lot about your place in the Kingdom. As much as I love him I know that I am loved even more.
